Mini-Bootcamp

January 14th, 2019 at 2:30PM

160 North Main, 1st Floor Lobby

The purpose of the mini-bootcamp is to teach people a simple five-minute routine to start the day when there might not be enough time for a full workout.

“You owe yourself the time. You owe yourself the dedication,” says Coleman. “I’m looking forward to showing Mayor Harris, Commissioner Morrison, and the other commissioners a few things to help get their blood pumping in the morning, no matter where they are on their health journey. It all starts with small steps. First being, don’t be afraid to take care of you.”

“Physical fitness is an essential component to overall health,” says Shelby County Commissioner Brandon Morrison. “Sometimes it can be hard to find the time or the motivation to get started. I am looking forward to learning a quick yet impactful way to start the day off right.”

Mayor Lee Harris aims to increase awareness for healthy choices with the healthyShelby ’19 campaign. Areas to be covered are nutrition, physical fitness, mental health, and stress management.

“Making strides to improve your health can feel overwhelming, but everyone has to start somewhere,” says Mayor Harris. “I hope that through healthyShelby ‘19, we can show people that small changes can have a big impact on how you feel, like eating Vegan once a week, starting your day with a quick workout, walking more, or focusing on ways to reduce stress.”

In addition to the healthyShelby ‘19 awareness campaign, the healthyShelby Board continues to work on assessing and addressing pressing health needs of the Shelby County Community. The healthyShelby Board is comprised of  President and CEO of Regional One Health Dr. Reginald Coopwood, President and CEO of St. Francis Tenet Healthcare Dr. Audrey Gregory, President and CEO of Baptist Medical Health Care Corporation Jason Little, CEO of Church Health Dr. Scott Morris, President and CEO of United Way Mid-South Dr. Kenneth Robinson, President and CEO of Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare Dr. Michael Ugwueke, and from the Shelby County Health Department Director Alisa Haushalter and Cynthia Nunnally. Interim Public Information Officer Lauren Lee serves as Health Liaison between the Mayor’s Administration and the healthyShelby Board.

“The healthyShelby Board has done great work identifying and addressing health issues in Shelby County,” says Lee. “I look forward to working with the board to continue this important work. I also am excited to engage Commissioners and raise the profile of healthy choices through health related events.”

Shelby County Commissioners, Commission staff, the healthyShelby Board, members of the media, and the public are invited to participate or simply observe the program.
