[ARCHIVED] Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris Names Marlinee Clark Iverson as Next County Attorney


MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris today announced the appointment of Marlinee Clark Iverson as County Attorney. Iverson will assume the role on September 12.

“Marlinee Clark Iverson is the best choice to serve as our next County Attorney,” Mayor Harris said. “Marlinee has had a diverse set of professional experiences, all of which are needed for success in this position. With her experience in civil litigation matters, juvenile justice reform, misdemeanor and felony cases, Marlinee has numerous strengths that will prove to be an asset as County Attorney.” 

Iverson began her career as a legal assistant and quickly gained professional legal experience serving as an associate at Young & Perl, PLC before becoming Special Assistant United States Attorney prosecuting cases including for Project Safe Neighborhoods (a nationwide initiative to reduce gun and gang crime), Assistant District Attorney for the Shelby County District Attorney General, Assistant County Attorney for Shelby County Government, and Magistrate for Juvenile Court of Memphis and Shelby County. In addition, Iverson currently serves as an adjunct faculty member at Christian Brothers University where she develops and instructs pre-law courses and provides mentorship opportunities. 

“I look forward to the opportunity to continue serving the people of Shelby County as County Attorney,” Iverson said. “I know the lawyers and staff at the County Attorney’s office to be a talented and dedicated group of professionals. Mayor Harris has laid out an ambitious and exciting plan to position Shelby County for the future, and I am eager to help him realize this vision for the benefit of us all.” 

Iverson is a 2017 Leadership Memphis graduate, a member of the Memphis and Tennessee Bar Associations, a Charter Member for the Memphis ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) Inn of Court, serves on the Campaign for Equal Justice committee raising funds for Memphis Area Legal Services, and is a charter member for The Community Foundation of Greater Memphis’s GiVE 365 Memphis initiative. Iverson received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rhodes College and a Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Memphis School of Law.
