Memphis, TN - Mayor Lee Harris has received support from 16 elected officials in Shelby County on the initiative of raising the pay of temporary workers to $15 per hour. The Shelby County Commission passed a resolution in support of the wage increase.

This action builds on the combined efforts of the Luttrell Administration and previous Shelby County Commission, who increased pay of all full-time Shelby County Employees to $15 per hour.

“The same reasons used to lift the wages for the full-time workers can be applied to our temporary employees,” says Harris. “This is an important statement of commitment to pay our employees, even those who are not full-time.”

This initiative will increase the pay of roughly 340 active workers and will be finalized by the end of the year. Temporary employees include, among others, custodial workers, secretarial staff, and law clerks. The pay increase will use current budget resources and will not require an amendment to the budget.
