LEGIONELLOSIS OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE
MEMPHIS – The Shelby County Health Department (SCHD) will provide periodic updates on the legionellosis outbreak investigation of the La Quinta Inn & Suites, located at 2979 Millbranch Road, as new information is available. Below is an update as of Wed., Oct. 5.
Laboratory Confirmed Cases: 7
Probable Cases: 19
Suspect Cases: 5
Status of Establishment: Will reopen today, Wednesday, October 5, 2016. No specific active source of legionella was identified. Franchise owners of La Quinta Inn & Suites have continued to work collaboratively with SCHD and will follow a water maintenance plan to ensure the safety of its patrons.
Additional Notes: SCHD will continue surveillance of the establishment for the next six months and take action as needed for the benefit of public health.
Symptoms of legionellosis can be similar to forms of pneumonia including cough, shortness of breath, high fever, muscle aches and headaches which can last between two and 14 days after exposure. Antibiotics are usually prescribed to treat the symptoms.
Individuals who had reservations at the La Quinta Inn & Suites located at 2979 Millbranch Road during the time of exposure (July 1, 2016 through Sep. 22, 2016) AND have experienced any of the signs or symptoms of legionellosis should contact the SCHD Investigation Hotline at (901) 222-9299.
