Memphis-Shelby County School Board Appointment (District 7)

Pursuant to Article VII, § 2 of the Tennessee Constitution and §§ 49-2-201(a)(1) and 49-2-202(e)(1) of the Tennessee Code Annotated, the Shelby County Board of Commissioners will take nominations from Commissioners and hold a vote at the County Commission Special Session on October 17, 2022, at 3:00 P.M., in the Shelby County Commission Chambers, Lobby of the Vasco A. Smith, Jr. County Administration Building, 160 N. Main, Memphis, Tennessee, for the purpose of appointing the Interim Member for District 7 of the Memphis-Shelby County Board of Education to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Commissioner Miska Clay Bibbs.  This interim term expires upon the election and qualification of a successor in the general election scheduled for August 1, 2024. 

An application and background check is required of all applicants seeking this office.  Any citizen interested in applying for an interim position on the Memphis-Shelby County Board of Education for District 7 can review the qualifications and district mapSchool Board Districts Map, and obtain the Application and Authorization for Release of Information forms.  

Applications may be submitted online or in person in the Shelby County Board of Commissioners office located in the Vasco Smith Administration Building, 160 N. Main Street, Suite 600, Memphis, Tennessee 38103. 

Those qualified applicants who submit an application by 4:00 p.m. on October 3, 2022, will be interviewed by the General Government Committee at its Special Session meeting on October 17, 2022, at 2:30 P.M.
