Inspiring Personal Excellence
Germantown Municipal School District serves approximately 6,000 students through 8 schools, under the leadership of Superintendent Jason Manuel. Germantown Municipal School District stands on a strong record of service to the community, describing itself as follows: “Germantown Municipal School District has a long tradition of academic excellence, coupled with a strong commitment to continuous improvement. Whether improvement comes in the form of capital projects, expansion of course and curriculum offerings, or providing the best support for our exemplary teachers—we are dedicated to reinforcing the culture of excellence at each one of our [eight] schools. Student-focused and unique, each school offers families a rich, multi-faceted environment.” The GMSD Strategic Plan 2025 outlines a roadmap to the continued pursuit of these outcomes.
For six consecutive years, Germantown Municipal School District has maintained the highest district ACT average in Tennessee. It is also noteworthy that since 2015, the percentage of students scoring college and career ready in all four subject areas has grown from 44% to 87%.
In addition to seven schools, GMSD also offers three academies (open to non-residents through an application process); Honors Academy, Leadership Academy, and the Fine Arts Academy.
GMSD two facilities that were recognized for exceptional design in the Memphis Business Journal's Building Memphis Awards (Riverdale, winner and Forest Hill Elementary, finalist).
Germantown Municipal School District has garnered 103 total state championships across its 24 TSSAA sports teams. Last year, it took the state championship in both boys basketball and boys soccer.
