AMERICAN JOB CENTERS – GREATER MEMPHIS REGION
The American Job Center (AJC)-Greater Memphis Region is a community resource dedicated to improving employment opportunities in Shelby, Fayette, Tipton, and Lauderdale Counties in Tennessee. With multiple locations throughout the Region, the AJC helps match job seekers with local businesses who are hiring and provides residents with services, training, skills, and education to promote personal growth and professional advancement. The AJC (a proud partner of the Workforce Investment Network) utilizes Federal funding from the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act to deliver a variety of services to the following target groups:
Adult Services
The American Job Center can help individuals find a job, obtain new skills to advance in the workplace, or get free or reduced cost training needed to move into a high demand career field. We provide services at no cost to individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and skill sets, including the following:
- Supportive services
- Job Search Assistance including: resume writing, interview prep, business communication
- Financial Empowerment
- Employer-driven career exploration & guidance
- Grant-funded occupational skills training & certifications
- Career interests inventory and assessments
- National Career Readiness Certification (NCRC)
- Targeted services for Veterans/ESL/Re-entry
Business Services
AJC is the “identified labor source” for Shelby, Fayette, Tipton, and Lauderdale County’s economic development projects. The AJC's Business Services team helps employers to fill their open positions and achieve their hiring goals by assisting businesses with:
- Employee recruitment & pre-screening
- Grants/Incentives to defray training costs or avoid layoffs
- Rapid Response Team
- Space for screening/interviewing/training/hiring events
- Statewide candidate database
- Marketing of job opportunities/recruitment/hiring events
Youth Services
AJC offers educational and career development programs for eligible youth ages 16 – 24. The services are offered through a network of regional service contractors, and include:
- Funded occupational skills training
- GED/HiSET preparation
- Tutoring, study skills & instruction
- Job search assistance and preparation
- Work experience (paid & unpaid)
- Financial literacy & entrepreneurial skills training
