Court Operations

Responsibilities

The Court Operations Section was established in 1969 using the guidelines of the $1 bail to release qualified individuals from jail. The section performs the following duties:
  • Covers each of the nine General Sessions Criminal Divisions and 10 divisions of Shelby County Criminal Courts to assist the courts in making informed decisions regarding bond and disposition of the case
  • Maintains regular contact with each client to ascertain that they are aware of court dates and are in compliance with court-ordered conditions of release: These conditions may include, but are not limited to, staying away from the victim, remaining drug-free, or abiding by certain restrictions (such as curfew)
  • Makes recommendations and manages the caseload of individuals who are released on their own recognizance under the supervision of Pretrial Services
  • Screens General Sessions Court dockets daily to ascertain all persons arrested have been given consideration regarding the setting of a bond on their case
