The Soil Conservation Services District is a subdivision of the State of Tennessee Government
and is organized under authority of the Tennessee Soil and Water Conservation Act of 1939. The district was established by a special referendum of Shelby County landowners in January 1948.
The district receives technical assistance, to assist landowners, operators, and groups, from professional conservationists of the USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS)
and has formal and informal agreements with other federal agencies and non-federal organizations.
Programs & Resources
The district office has a broad selection of free publications and educational materials. In October, the district sponsors a Farm Education Day for Memphis / Shelby County schools to promote agricultural education to students and teachers.
Flood plain maps, soil survey information, and aerial photographs are available as a public service of the district office. Interested parties are invited to visit, call, or write the Shelby County Agricenter.
