Collaborative Effort Eradicates Blight in Binghampton
The 44 blighted apartments at 456 Tillman were
demolished late July. Community Bank donated the property to the Binghampton Development Corporation and the City of Memphis awarded HUD / Neighborhood Stabilization Program funding to provide for the buildings' removal. Initially, 456 Tillman will be maintained as green space as BDC works to gather community input, plan for its best and highest use, and secure funding for a future redevelopment at a strategic location on the north side of the Tillman Station precinct.
The community worked together to rehabilitate 218 and 220 Tillman under the direction of BDC.
Robert Montague, Executive Director of BDC, describes Judge Potter’s contribution to both of these projects as “instrumental.”
Montague also describes the work performed at these properties as “an answer to many prayers, which will immediately improve the look and feel of Tillman.”
