Life Insurance
Effective January 1, 2013, ING Employee Benefits became County’s Basic, Voluntary, Dependent, and AD&D life insurance carrier.
Basic Life
Basic life insurance is provided to all eligible active, full-time employees working a minimum of 20 hours per week. Basic life coverage is two times annual salary to a maximum of $350,000. Both employee and employer share the cost of this coverage.
Voluntary (Additional) Life
In addition to basic life insurance, employees have the option to purchase voluntary life insurance from $10,000 up to $400,000. Any amounts of voluntary coverage over $150,000 will require the employee to complete a health questionnaire (evidence of insurability) for approval.
NOTE: There will be a change in voluntary life premium when an employee moves to the next 5 year age band (e.g. from 30-34 to 35-39; 40-44 to 45-49, etc.) The change will be made January 1, of each year.
Employees cannot take voluntary life coverage into retirement.
Dependent Life
Employees have the option to purchase dependent life insurance coverage for eligible spouse and children from $5,000 up to $30,000.
Any employee who retires on or after January 1, 2013 will be allowed to take dependent life coverage into retirement. Retirees will not be allowed to increase the amount of their dependent coverage upon retirement.
The new Age 26 law does not apply to dependent life insurance for 19 up to age 26 dependents. Dependents 19 up to age 25 who are full-time students can be covered on dependent life coverage.

Please ensure your beneficiaries for your basic, additional, and AD&D are current. You do not have to wait until open enrollment to update your beneficiaries. You can update at any time.
