The Asphalt Section is responsible for maintenance of roadways within the jurisdiction of unincorporated Shelby County. Maintenance includes the correction of any road damage or failure. The section's major responsibilities are to:

• Inspect roads in unincorporated Shelby County to ensure public safety
• Investigate citizen complaints concerning road damage, obstruction, or other unsafe conditions
• Manage the construction and repaving of roads
• Provide emergency response during inclement weather when road integrity is breached

Projected 2010-2011 Projects

• Chambers Road – Paving and beam replacements (in conjunction with Bridge Construction and Maintenance)
• Collierville Arlington Road – Paving and beam replacement (in conjunction with Bridge Construction and Maintenance)
• Fleming Road – Paving and beam replacements (in conjunction with the Bridge Construction and Maintenance)
• Deployment of asphalt asset management system to promote rapid dissemination of information
