Mayor Will Honor Former Golf Pro at Orgill Go

Shelby County Mayor Mark H. Luttrell, Jr., will host a ceremony at Orgill Golf Course next week to honor the memory of the former Head Pro, Paul Evans.

Evans, 84, died last month after a brief illness. He served as Head Pro at Orgill from the day the course opened in 1972 until he retired in 1990.

We were saddened to learn that Mr. Evans had passed away. The staff at Orgill wanted to commemorate his service with our golf course,” said Mayor Luttrell.

For 18 years, visitors to Orgill Golf Course knew Mr. Evans not only as a professional golfer but also a friend.

Golfers thought highly of Paul since he had played in several tournaments through the years, including the Publinks Tournament in Chicago. It was, however, his kind sprit that some of our older golfers still talk about almost 20 years later,” said Lee Hinson, Executive Director of the Shelby County Conservation Board.

The ceremony to honor Paul Evans will be held Tuesday, July 5th, at the Orgill Club House, 9080 Bethuel Road, at 9 a. m. For additional information, contact Lee Hinson at (901) 379-7872.
