Shelby County Corrections Center Inmates Escape-One Captured, One Still at Large
May 6, 2011

Officers are searching tonight for a Shelby County Corrections Center inmate who walked away from a work detail in south Memphis.

George Gordon, 34, was assigned to a grass cutting crew near South Parkway at Humber. About 11 a.m., Gordon slipped away from crew supervisors. He was serving a 3-year sentence for Aggravated Burglary. He's has dark skin, stands 5'11 and weighs 130 pounds. Gordon was wearing blue jeans and a light blue shirt with the letters "SCDC" on them. Gordon goes by several names including "Michael Gordon" and "Daven Gordon." He has two tattoos on his neck. One says "Phebe" and the other says "Courtney." Anyone with information about George Gordon is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-Cash.

Also today, another Shelby County Corrections Center inmate escaped from the prison facility in east Memphis but was captured five hours later.

Christopher Rose, 21, was serving 11 months and 29 days at the Shelby County Corrections Center on charges of DUI and Leaving the Scene of a Vehicle Crash. He ran out of a holding area at 4 p.m. and then bolted past other inmates as they were leaving the building to go to dinner. Rose then ran into the prison yard and scaled a fence several feet high that was wrapped in layers of razor wire. Despite the sharp wire, Rose got over the fence. A prison counselor who ran after Rose suffered cuts after he attempted to get Rose off the fence. The corrections center employee was not seriously hurt. At 630 p.m., a man called Police after seeing Rose walking down Poplar Avenue near Interstate 240 noticeably bleeding. As officers arrived, Rose ran into some woods nearby. About 9 p.m., Shelby County Sheriff's Deputies and Memphis Police officers tracked Rose to an area near Southwest Community College. He refused to give up and a Memphis dog bit him. Rose was taken to The Regional Medical Center for treatment for the dog bite injuries. Rose will face additional charges relating to the escape.

Pictures of Christopher Rose and George Gordon are being sent in separate email files.
