Lead Poisoning Prevention
Program Summary
The Memphis Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program (MCLPPP) is committed to eliminating lead poisoning throughout Shelby County. The program is a successful collaborative grant-funded effort between the Shelby County Health Department, the City of Memphis Housing and Community Development, Shelby County Department of Housing, and the Tennessee Department of Health.

Goals, Vision & Mission
Reduce the Incident of Lead Poisoning 
  • The program provides medical case management of all children identified with elevated blood lead levels. 
  • MCLPPP provides Shelby County day care centers with blood screening  for lead and educational lead poisoning prevention presentations. 

Increase Lead Poisoning Prevention Awareness 
  • The Lead Poisoning Preventative Exposure Program is targeted at educating high-risk communities to prevent lead exposures from occurring. 

Increase the Number of Lead-Safe Housing Units 
  • MCLPPP provides environmental dust wipe clearance testing in properties that have received lead hazard reduction treatments using Housing and Urban Development grant funding.
