Chris Thomas served one term on the Memphis City School Board prior to his election as Probate Court clerk in 1994. As probate clerk, Thomas was responsible for the administration of the court's two divisions. His office oversaw wills, estates, guardianships, and conservatorships in Shelby County. He recently ran for County Commission after 16 years as Probate Court clerk. He was credited with modernizing the office to increase efficiency and improve customer service. Local attorneys rated Thomas' office tops among court clerk offices for exceptional service.

A graduate of Kingsbury High School, Thomas is the father of three. He holds a degree in marketing from the University of Memphis. Thomas is an active member of Faith Baptist Church in Bartlett.

Mr. Thomas has been actively involved in community affairs for most of his adult life. Thomas is chairman of the Escort Marshals Committee for the St. Jude Golf classic and serves on the Marguerite Piazza St. Jude Gala Board. He also is involved with promotions for the Delta Fair and Music Festival, and was the 2005 race director for Memphis-Mid-South Race for the Cure. Thomas is the past chairman of the Board of Youth for Christ (now JIFF) and is a former board member for Life Choices. He is the emcee of the Miss Collierville Pageant.
