The Memphis and Shelby County Air Pollution Control Board will hold a meeting in the Renaissance Center at 555 Beale Street in Memphis, Tennessee on Friday January 9, 2009 at 2:00 pm. 

Agenda items will include two variance request.

Nucor Steel Memphis, 3601 Paul R. Lowry Road, Memphis; requesting the approval from the Shelby County Air Board to dispose of contraband from various law enforcement agencies including: Memphis Police Department, Shelby County Sheriff's Department, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the Nucor Steel electric arc furnance.

Valero Refining Company-Tennessee LLC, 2385 Riverport Road, Memphis; requesting the approval from the Shelby County Air Board to reduce the frequency of complete tank seal inspection intervals from five to ten years to meet the regulations as stipulated in the in the Federal New Source Performance Standards (NSPS).

In additon, update on air quality in Shelby County and a review of progress on completing the application and associated maintenance plan submission to the United States Environmental Protection Agency for reclassification of the area to attainment of the National Ambient Air Quality Standard for ozone. Also, other such matters the Board deems necessary for the operation of the Air Pollution Control Program under the air pollution codes may be discussed.

The meeting is open to the public.
