Commissioner James Harvey was elected to the Shelby County Board of Commissioners in the August 2006 general election to represent District 3.

Mr. Harvey is an entrepreneur. He is currently the president of Fidelity Mortgage & Funding, Inc. and the founder and director of The Children, Inc.  He is a residential and commercial property investor and manager.  He provides free counseling to potential home owners/homebuyers relative to credit issues, debt, and homeowner qualifications and he has counseled some very successful small businesses in Memphis.

Mr. Harvey is active in the community as a motivational speaker for Officer Safety within the Memphis school system.  He has visited over 50 schools encouraging students to choose positive, healthy lifestyles.  He has provided transportation for the elderly, handicapped, and work release prisoners.

Commissioner Harvey is a member of the Certified Loan Brokers Association (Commercial & Residential Finance); National Association of Mortgage Brokers; Tennessee Association of Mortgage Brokers; National Federation of Independent Business;  and Variety Children's Tent 20 and the Officer Safety Program.

Mr. Harvey attended the University of Memphis and Shelby State Community College and worked for United Parcel service for 18 years. He served in the United States Army for seven years.  He attends The New Friendship Baptist Church.
