Commissioner Edith Ann Moore was appointed to the Shelby County Board of Commissioners in December 2009 to replace Commissioner Joe Ford, who was appointed as Interim Shelby County Mayor. 

Commissioner Moore attended Middle Tennessee State University on a pre-Honors scholarship while in high school. She also attended the University of Memphis, and Christian Brothers College studying business and management.  She received her Undergraduate Degree and Masters in Theology. 

 

Ms. Moore is retired after 31 years from International Business Machines (IBM) where she received numerous service awards from IBM for exemplary service. She is currently a substitute teacher in the Memphis City School system and is the Youth Minister at Gospel Temple Missionary Baptist Church on Manassas.

 

She is an Independent Associate for Prepaid Legal Services for Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas. She is an avid community service supporter who initiated the partnerships between IBM and the Memphis Urban League, forming a training center on Cleveland and also partnered with IBM to develop the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church - Westwood Kindergarten and Day Care Center. She is a supporter of educational systems and continues to funnel funds through IBM Community Service grants to numerous schools and non-profit organizations.  Ms. Moore is past President of the Southwest Jaycettes.  She is a member of the National Council of Negro Women, a member of NAACP receiving the NAACP Presidential Award, and a member of the Glenview Neighborhood Association. She enjoys working with community and political organizations and is also a member of the Outkast Pinochle Club of Memphis.

 

Commissioner Moore is currently Chairman of the Community Services Committee and Vice Chairman of the General Government Committee.

 

Commissioner Moore has two daughters and a grandson who live in Georgia.
