Commissioner Mike Carpenter

Commissioner Carpenter was elected to the Shelby County Board of Commissioners in August 2006 general election to represent District 1.

Mr. Carpenter currently serves as President and CEO of the West Tennessee Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC).  ABC is a commercial construction trade association promoting free enterprise and open competition throughout the industry.  Locally, Carpenter serves 260 member companies representing approximately 8,000 employees.  He manages the day-to-day operations of the association and its 501(c)3 Education Trust dedicated to skills assessment, craft and  management training for the construction industry.

Prior to his tenure with ABC, Mr. Carpenter managed political campaigns, operated a successful consulting business and served as Political Director of the Tennessee Republican Party.  He has managed or consulted with more than fifty candidates and spent over fifteen years working in Republican politics.

Mr. Carpenter is a graduate of the University of Memphis with a degree in political science and international relations.  He is a former student body president at the University and member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. 

Commissioner Carpenter is married to Mary Ann and the couple have four children, J. Michael, Taylor Ann, Polly Marie and Lily Beth.  The Carpenters are active at First Evangelical Church where Mike serves in the children's ministry teaching Sunday school and coaching soccer.
