The New York Times calls to find out something about The Pyramid. A civic group wants some brochures or a videotape about Shelby County. A student needs some information about the court system for a history paper. A Japanese visitor needs advice on local customs. A position paper on international business is requested by the mayor.
Supplying the public with information about county government is the primary job of the Public Affairs staff as well as analysis of public policy. The Public Affairs office not only researches and answers hundreds of calls a month from the national and local media, but supplies the public with information through printed literature and makes sure the county complies with the open meeting ("Sunshine") law.
