Mayor A C Wharton to Announce
Community Crime Initiative
Remarks at the Rotary Club to focus on the big issues of "Safety and Security"

Memphis, TN. -  In his speech today at 12 noon before the Memphis Rotary Club, Mayor A C Wharton will announce a series of interactive community meetings focused on the issues of crime and public safety.  The individual sessions are termed "Community Congress" for the way in which participants will be asked to offer their vote and specific opinions on a proposed crime agenda that has been crafted to bolster ongoing crime-fighting initiatives and to further empower law enforcement officials in their efforts.  Two of the three upcoming sessions will be held in the neighborhoods where certain recent violent crimes have caught the attention of the entire community.

In addition to safety, Mayor Wharton's remarks will also focus on the issue of security, namely economic security and the steps being taken to advance economic and job development locally given the challenges posed by our national financial crisis.

The Memphis Rotary Club event will be held at The University Club, 1346 Central Ave, Memphis, Tennessee 38104.
