 The Reinvent Government Listening Tour
Comes to the Millington Civic Center

On May 11th, Shelby County Mayor A C Wharton and the Chairs of the Shelby County Commission and the Memphis City Council will again hear first-hand from citizens on the issue of unified government.

Memphis, TN. -  With two and a half months remaining on a three month community-wide Listening Tour, Shelby County Mayor A C Wharton, Shelby County Commission Chair Deidre Malone, and Memphis City Council Chairman Myron Lowery will continue to hear from citizens from across the county on the issue of unified government with a scheduled stop in Millington, Tennessee. Hosted by the League of Women Voters of Memphis and Shelby County, this Listening Tour session will be held on May 11, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. at the Millington Civic Center located at 8077
Wilkinsville Road.

Mayor Wharton said he "organized the listening tour because it gives all of us the chance to listen to each other and to talk about what a new government could be and what it could mean."  Wharton emphasized, "My interest is related to the opportunity to create a new, efficient government from the ground up. I'm enthusiastic about the depth of interest so many have shown in improving local government and I'm looking forward to this next conversation. I want to make sure that every one in our community has the opportunity to ask questions and express
their own vision of a better future for us all. I hope the people of Millington and North Shelby County will join me next week."

In conjunction with this listening tour, the reinventgovernment.org website has been launched to serve as a nucleus for information gathering and sharing. Questions that have been frequently asked during the tour are being shared and answered on this portal to address concerns and dispel some common misconceptions. Additionally, citizens are able to personally visit this website to share their comments or thoughts on the issue of a government merger.
