2008/01/19 - Shelby County Mourns the Loss of Trustee Bob Patterson

OFFICE OF THE MAYOR OF SHELBY COUNTY, TENNESSEE
160 North Main Street, Memphis, TN 38103
For Immediate Release:
January 19, 2008

Mayor Wharton & Shelby County Government Mourn
Loss of Statesman Shelby County Trustee Bob Patterson

Memphis, TN.
"From the earliest times, those individuals who served as tax collectors have had a difficult job to do. Bob Patterson easily broke free of the negative image sometimes associated with this position.  In all my years in public service, I have never met an officeholder who took his duty to the public more seriously than Bob did.  He was the consummate professional. He insisted on efficiency and courtesy. He was as meticulous in the consideration of feelings of others.  The fact that he had been elected to his fifth term as Shelby County Trustee and had been recently honored with the Victor E. Martinelli Award as the #1 Trustee in the Nation, underscores the high regard in which he was held by so many.
Bob was as compassionate towards his co-workers and the public as he was in caring for his handsome trademark hats.
Bob can be replaced but his shoes can never be filled.  As a county and community, we've lost a true public servant and statesmen in Bob Patterson.  My thoughts and prayers go out to his loving wife Virginia, his entire family, and his dedicated staff."
Shelby County Mayor A C Wharton, Jr.
