The Hispanic population is the fastest growing ethnic group in Memphis and Shelby County.
U. S. Census data in the year 2000 showed that 27,520 Hispanic people lived in Memphis and Shelby County, a substantial increase from 7,546 Hispanics living here when the 1990 census was taken. Local estimates based on school enrollment, church registrations and visits to Memphis and Shelby County Health Department clinics by pregnant women show that the actual number of Hispanics living in Memphis and Shelby County may be as high as 200,000.

The Office of Hispanic Affairs helps Hispanic people deal with many of the basic issues of life in Shelby County. Through this office, the Hispanic population can learn about the services available to them as residents of Shelby County.
