Business Licenses

To obtain a Business License from our office, you may download an application from the list further down this page, come in the office during working hours, or you may call our Downtown office at (901) 545-4249 or the East Branch Office at (901) 379-7099 and ask that an application be mailed to you. Other phone numbers are listed at the bottom of this page.

If your business is located within the city limits of Memphis, you must purchase a city license and a county license. The cost of the consolidated license is $46.00. If your business is located outside the city limits, the cost is $24.00.

There are four (4) business classifications. They expire different times of the year. The dominant activity of your business will determine the classification of your business.

Information and application forms are listed below. The forms may be printed, filled out and presented to the Clerk as originals.

Going Out Of Business Sales

Any business that holds a liquidation, or going out of business sale must obtain a permit from the County Clerk's Office. The fee is $25.00. The permit is good for 30 days and may be renewed up to three (3) times at the same fee.  The form is available in the list on this page.
