The Process Department is responsible for the service of all legal documents that require appearances in court. In 2007, Process Officers successfully served 17,178 summons, subpoenas and scire fascias. Except in rare cases, all documents are received ready for service by the Process Department within a minimum of five (5) days prior to a scheduled court date.
The Parent Location Department is responsible for preparing jail arrest papers for the court dockets and entering data into the Jail Management System (JMS) of the Sheriff's Department. Staff must update all juvenile and adult warrants in a timely manner, while providing customer service to clients, court personnel, attorneys, and law enforcement agencies. In 2007, the Title IV-D Child Support State Contract funded the Parent Location staff so they can continue serving the taxpayers of Shelby County.
