Judge Curtis S. Person was elected Judge of the Juvenile Court of Memphis and Shelby County in August 2006.  The Juvenile Court Judge is assisted in his judicial duties by referees appointed by the Judge.  The Juvenile Court Judge is also responsible for the administration of the Court's Administrative Services Division, Court Services Division and Child Support Services Division.

Prior to his election as Judge, Judge Person served children and families of Memphis and Shelby County as Chief Referee and Chief Legal Officer of Juvenile Court, where he began employment in 1976.  Judge Person served as a member of the Tennessee Senate from the 86th through 104th General Assemblies and was a member of the House of Representatives for the 85th General Assembly, a total of forty years.  While in the Senate he served in leadership as Republican Caucus Chairman for six years and as Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee for twenty years.  He was also Vice-Chairman of the Select Committee on Children and Youth, and a member of various committees, including General Welfare, Education and Ethics.

Judge Person has been involved in various community organizations and has received numerous awards for outstanding public service.  He served as President of the University of Memphis National Alumni Association and received the University's Distinguished Alumni Award.  Judge Person also served as President of Handicapped Inc., the Mental Health Association of Memphis and Shelby County, the Memphis Heart Gala, and was chairman of the Memphis Drug Commission.

Judge Person is married to Geraldean Smith of Humbolt, Tennessee, and they have six children and ten grandchildren.  Judge Person is a graduate of the University of Memphis and received his law degree from the University of Mississippi.  He is a member of the Mississippi Bar Association and an honorary member of the Memphis Bar Association.
