The Central Records Department is the "information center," of Juvenile Court.  All cases begin and return to this department, where the personnel are responsible for building, housing, and secure maintenance of all Court records.  Currently, there are 1, 263,591 records being housed in Central Records.

In recent months, the creation of new files have increased due to the over flow of new caseloads in Juvenile Court.  In 2007, there were 11, 091 legal records and 2,500 social records created.  As the information link to the general public, social services, attorneys and all law enforcement agencies, this department is obligated to provide accurate and appropriate information in handling and processing all Court related cases.  Expansion in the Central Records Department has been completed to accommodate the extensive demands of its personnel and to continue providing quality customer service to the taxpayers of Shelby County.
