Monthly Permitting Actions

The Memphis and Shelby County Health Department, Pollution Control Section, has received applications to construct or modify air contaminant sources at the following locations and of the following description. The sources in these permitting actions are not considered a "Major Source" as defined in the Rules and Regulations of the State of Tennessee 1200-3-9.01(4), or do not meet the definitions of a "Major Modifcation" in this Chapter. The Department invites interested persons to submit written comments concerning these applications. Written comments will be accepted for a period of thirty (30) calendar days from Monday, March 8, 2010at the following address:

The Memphis and Shelby County Air Pollution Control Board (Board) will hold a meeting in the Renaissance Center located at 555 Beale Street, Memphis, TN on Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at 3:00pm.

Agenda items will include:

  • Request for a variance by WM Barr and Company, 2015 Channel Avenue and 2170 Bouy Street for the Board to recognize the pending local regualtion change for the federal delisting of a hazardous air pollution (HAP), methyl ethyl ketone, which affects the permitting status of the two facilites.
  • Request for a variance by the Valero-Memphis Refinery, 2385 Riverport Road, for the Board to recognize the pending rule change on the tank seal inspection schedule.
  • A general update on the air quality in Shelby County.
  • Other matters the Board deems necessary for the operation of the Air Pollution Control Program under the air pollution codes.
