Visitation General Rules

  1. All visitors will be required to complete a visitation application prior to being approved to visit with any Division of Corrections Inmate.
  2. Inmates may have only up to four (4) adult visitors and three (3) child visitors during their visitation period. 
  3. Inmates housed in the New Arrival Housing Areas will not be allowed to receive visits until after they have been classified.
  4. All visitors age 18 and older must have two forms of verifiable Identification to enter the facility. The primary form of I.D. must be a valid photo I.D. and secondary form must contain the visitor's name. Such I.D.s listed below are accepted.
    • State Issued I.D. or Driver License (Primary)
    • Passports
    • Military I.D.
    • Social Security Card
    • Work/School Identification
    • Voter Registration
    • Work ID
  5. All visitors under eighteen (18) years of age, must be accompanied by an approved visitor who is either the child's parent or legal guardian, all children 12 and over will be added to the inmate visitation list (form will be filled out and signed by the child and parent or guardian).
  6. Visitors will be required to utilize the restroom facility outside of the visitation area before the start of their visit.
  7. For convenience to accommodate babies, one (1) clear plastic bottle half full and one (1) diaper is allowed.
  8. Persons entering the SCDC facilities should be encouraged to dress comfortably and in casual attire; however, they shall be expected to comply with the following basic dress requirements.
    • Clothing shall fit in an appropriate manner. The supervisor will reject clothing appearing to be too large or too small for the wearer, which creates obvious gaps or exposure, or would present a hazard to the wearer.
    • Visitors must wear underwear.
    • Appropriate shoes to provide basic foot protection shall be required while on institutional grounds. Open toe shoes are permitted however shower shoes, flip-flops, etc., are not permitted.
    • Shorts or skirts are permitted and should come to the knee.
    • Splits may not expose the leg more than two (2) inches above the knee.
    • Visitors are only allowed to wear a watch, one ring, and small stud earrings.

      The below listed types of clothing are specifically prohibited:
    • Garments manufactured from spandex or spandex-type fabrics.
    • Any clothing that is transparent or translucent in nature.
      Sleeveless shirts or dresses or clothing exposing a bare chest or midriff.
    • Any camouflage attire.
    • Clothing with logos that contain pictures, slogans, or vulgarity, or contain symbols of security threat groups, or any clothing determined by the Division as being associated with the security threat groups (Gangs).
    • Visitors may not wear excessive clothing such as two pair of pants or an extra shirt under the top layer of clothing.
    • Jackets worn as the primary upper garment.
    • Hats or baseball caps.
    • Scarves, bandannas or hair rollers.
    • Clothing with metal studs or chains sewn to the garments.
    • Large removable belt buckles.
    • Any visitors under the influence of drugs or alcohol will not be allowed to visit and is subject to arrest.
  9. Visitors with small children must keep the children with them always, and under proper supervision. Failure to do this will result in the visit with the inmate being cancelled.
  10. Loud talking, disturbances and misbehavior by the visitor or inmate will not be tolerated.
  11. At no time will visitors or inmates' be allowed to fondle, sit on another person's lap, kiss or embrace. When greeting or saying goodbye to an inmate, an appropriate and brief embrace, handshake, or kiss is permitted.

The Division of Corrections shall provide a safe and efficient means for inmates to have an opportunity to visit with family members, friends, etc. But understand that it is a privilege and if any of the above mentioned rules are violated the visitation will be denied or terminated.
