Procedure for New Inmate Arrivals

When an inmate first arrives at SCDC, it can sometimes take 10 to 14 working days  (not including weekends & holidays) before visitation is scheduled. The inmate has to be processed into the system. That means he/she has to go through diagnostic testing, classification, receive medical clearance and be assigned housing.

While in processing, an inmate can receive mail. Monies may be placed in his/her account Monday - Friday 9:00 a.m. to 3:00p.m. You will need the inmate's R & I number in order to place money in his/her account.

Inmates will not be allowed to receive commissary while in processing. A care package will be distributed to the inmate containing necessary personal hygiene items until security assigns the inmate his/her housing location. Once the inmate has been assigned a housing location, he/she will be entitled to purchase commissary items.

Once the inmate has completed the classification process, been assigned to a housing location and his/her visitation schedule is in the computer system, visitation will be allowed.
