Mailing Instructions

Inmate mail is processed and distributed daily with the exception of week-ends and holidays. There is no limit to the amount of mail any inmate may send out nor legal mail received.

There are restrictions on incoming mail to inmates.  No more than ten photographs may be sent to an inmate at any one time.  Also, inmates may only receive four magazines or books.  No stamps, envelopes, blank sheets of paper, newspaper clippings, or items from the Internet are allowed in mail sent to inmates.  If these items are include with mail, the entire letter with the unauthorized items will be returned to the sender.

The sender must include their full name and complete return address, as well as, the inmate's complete name and Record and Identification number (R&I#) on all correspondence.  Any mail that is not properly addressed is returned to the sender unopened.  No exceptions are made. It normally takes the Post Office three to four weeks to reroute return-to-sender mail.  If a holiday is involved, the process takes four to six weeks for the sender to receive the return-to-sender mail.

All regular and properly addressed mail is opened by the mailroom staff and inspected for contraband.  Sexually explicit materials and Polaroid photographs are considered contraband and are returned to the sender.  Maximum acceptable size for allowable photographs is 4 x 6 inches.

Inmates may receive magazines and newspapers if they come directly from a publisher.  Paperback books may be sent from a reputable bookstore or publisher.

All legal mail is delivered every workday to the inmates unopened.  Legal mail must be signed for by the inmate and is opened and inspected for contraband in the inmate's presence and then given to the inmate.

Inmates may receive cashier's checks, certified checks, money orders, federal government checks, work release checks and other correctional facility inmate trust fund checks.  Any checks/money orders are posted to the inmate's account on the date received and a receipt is put in the envelope to be given to the inmate.  Any personal check sent to an inmate is returned to the sender with no exceptions.

All mail should be addressed as follows:

Sender's Full Name
