Direct Services At The Crime Victims Center 

Many crime victims feel alone and don't know where to turn for help. Not knowing what assistance is available often compounds the feelings of fear and hopelessness.

The Shelby County Government Crimes Victims Center stands ready to aid in these areas:

  • CRISIS INTERVENTION: Counseling, reassurance, and support to victims and their loved ones in the aftermath of the crime.
  • SOCIAL SERVICES ASSISTANCE: Serving the immediate concerns of the victims such as food, clothing, shelter, and emergency needs.

    ORIENTATION TO THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM:
    Explaining the criminal justice system and tracking individual cases through the system as well as accompanying victims to court and parole hearings.
  • REFERRALS: Directing victims to other community resources that can provided further assistance.
  • VICTIMS COMPENSATION APPLICATION ASSISTANCE: Assisting victims and/or survivors in preparing and filing application forms for State victim compensation funds.
  • ADVOCACY AND SPECIALIZED VICTIMS SERVICES: Responding to calls for assistance from other agencies and individual victims to meet specific and unique needs that can not be met by other existing services.
  • CASE MANAGEMENT FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CASES: Assisting victims in safety planning; court advocacy; filing Orders of Protection; individual and group counseling for children involved; personal growth development including goal setting, continuing education and employment assistance; coordinating social service needs and filing for victims compensation.
  • HOMICIDE RESPONSE: Offers compassion, support and guidance for the survivors of the horrific crime of homicide. Services include crisis counseling, court advocacy, individual and family counseling, information about compensation for the crime victims, and referrals to beneficial community support services.
