Aging Commission of the Mid-South (Area Agency on Aging) serves as the focal point for aging services, the uniting link between senior citizens and the agencies and programs that serve them. In partnership with a range of community-based service providers, the Aging Commission leads the aging network by coordinating and funding community services that promote independence and choice for senior citizens. Seniors are served within the City of Memphis, and Shelby, Fayette, Lauderdale and Tipton counties. The Aging Commission's priorities include advocacy, leadership, planning, coordination, information sharing, funding of services, conservatorship for disabled persons, home and community-based services, elder abuse prevention strategies, health promotion activities and evaluation. The overall goal is to plan, coordinate and advocate for the development of a comprehensive service delivery system to help seniors help themselves in maintaining their independence and to assure their continuing productive involvement throughout our communities.
