How to Apply for Employment with Shelby County Government
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
1. Obtain an Application Applications are accepted for open, register, durational and closed promotional positions only. Resumes are not accepted in lieu of applications, but may be included in your application packet. 2. Submit your Application Applications must be completed in accordance with the directions on the job announcement. Please read the announcement carefully for specific mailing requirements and deadlines.
Applications must be received by the published closing date (postmarks are not accepted).
Misrepresentation and incomplete or inaccurate information may be cause for application rejection, removal from the employment list, or discharge from County employment.
Please read the "Minimum Qualifications" listed on the announcement. You must fully possess these qualifications to be considered for the position.
3. Status of your Application You will be notified by mail within 6-8 weeks of the status of your application. If after that time period you have not received notification of your status, you may call our office at (901) 545-4342 or email us at hrinfo@shelbycountytn.gov.

1. Examinations Some positions with Shelby County Government require applicants to qualify through competitive examinations. A variety of examinations may be administered individually or in combination, and may include: - a physical ability test - psychological evaluation - drug test - skills test - written and/or oral test - performance test The announcement for the job opening will list any required examination(s) as Special Requirements.
