Memphis, TN. - The Memphis and Shelby County Health Department has received 500 doses of Flu Mist to help protect against H1N1 flu. Flu Mist - a vaccine containing a significantly weakened version of virus - is administered in the nose. The vaccine will be provided at no charge to non-pregnant individuals who meet the following criteria:

Age two through 24 years of age.

Age 25 through 49 years of age and live with or care for infants younger than six months of age or,
-
Age 25 through 49 years of age and are healthcare or emergency medical personnel.
For individuals in these categories, vaccine is available at the following Health Department clinics:

As vaccine continues to become available, other healthy 25-49 adults should receive it. The Health Department will continue to provide information regarding vaccine availability and the types of vaccine available. No shortage of H1N1 vaccine is expected.
In addition, the Health Department also urges residents to receive the seasonal flu vaccination to prevent illness. The seasonal flu vaccine is recommended for the elderly, young children and people with certain health conditions such as asthma, diabetes or heart disease since they are at high risk for complications from seasonal flu.
