Circuit Court, A Court of Record

Shelby County Circuit Court

Entrance to Shelby County Courthouse

A Court Of Record

Web Site: http://circuitcourt.shelbycountytn.gov

Circuit Court is a court of general jurisdiction consisting of nine (9) judges presiding over nine (9) divisions. Approximately 11,000 cases are filed annually with the court. These filings include appeals from lower courts, auto accident, condemnation, divorce, joint petition minor settlement, personal injury workers compensation to name a few.

Clerks of the Circuit Court are responsible for accepting the filing of lawsuits. After accepting filings, the clerks create case files, input data to Shelby County's Court Management Computer System and monitor those new cases by accepting additional pleadings and filings, scheduling cases for motions, hearing, and trials and processing and maintaining all orders of the court.

For information on court fees, location and hours, please visit Circuit Court's web site at http://circuitcourt.shelbycountytn.gov
