The Memphis Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is a regional, multi-jurisdictional agency that is responsible for the planning and programming of Long-Range Transportation facilities in the Memphis Metropolitan Area. The MPO’s voting body, the Transportation Policy Board (TPB), is comprised of officials representing the local jurisdictions, states, and transportation agencies within the region. The Memphis MPO planning boundary covers all of Shelby County, TN and DeSoto County, MS, the western portion of Fayette County, TN and the northwest corner of Marshall County, MS.
In December 2013, the Memphis MPO released a series of short videos to both provide an overview of the roles and functions of the MPO as well as launch the upcoming Regional Transportation Plan: LIVABILITY 2040. LIVABILITY 2040 is a planning document that will guide the transportation improvements for the region, with a focus on Connecting People to Places. Three videos were produced, which form a dialogue between different Mayors throughout the region on the importance of liability. Check out these three videos along with a video on the background of the MPO through the Media Centerpage of the Memphis MPO website.
