Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 46A, Adopted March 28, 2019, does not affect service for Shelby County Circuit and Chancery Court until adoption of new local court e-filing rules and modification to the e-filing system for both courts.

Changes to provide for electronic service in Shelby County Courts is in progress and will require re-registration of all e-file users at a later date.

More information will be forthcoming.

  As of January 1, 2019 all new filing docket numbers will not include the two leading zeros. For example, our first case this year has been assigned docket number CT-0001-19. Please note that any case numbers prior to January 1, 2019 will remain formatted as a six digit field ex. CT-003456-18.

Organization and Responsibilities:

Circuit Court is a court of general jurisdiction consisting of nine judges presiding over nine divisions. The court hears a variety of civil cases, including:

  • Appeals from lower courts
  • Auto accident
  • Breach of Contract
  • Condemnation
  • Divorce
  • Medical malpractice
  • Minor settlement
  • Name Change
  • Personal injury
  • Worker's compensation
  • Wrongful death

Approximately 5,000 cases are filed in Circuit Court annually.

January 21, 2019 - Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
February 18, 2019 - Presidents Day (Courts will be closed, Clerk offices will be open)
April 4, 2019 - Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Day
April 19, 2019 - Good Friday
May 27, 2019 - Memorial Day
July 4, 2019 - Independence Day
September 2, 2019 - Labor Day
November 11, 2019 - Veterans Day
November 28 and 29, 2019 - Thanksgiving Holiday
December 24 and 25, 2019 - Christmas Holiday
December 31, 2019 - New Years Eve
